Graduate Ambassador at Portland State University
Graduate Program: Master of Taxation, Master's
Program Delivery: Full Time
Anticipated Graduation Date: 2021
I am originally from Mali, West Africa. I first atented Portland State University in Fall 2008, where I started with English as Second Language program since I came from a French speaking country. During my undergraduate program at PSU, I refined my leadership skills by volunteering extensive hours as a member of the International Cultural Scholarship Program and co-coordinating the International Women's Group. Portland State University was an opportunity for energetic involvement and set a firm professional foundation to build on. I graduated from Portland State University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in Finance.
Portland State University is one of the best schools when it comes to diversity and inclusion. I have had a great undergraduate and graduate experiences at PSU. It offers good resources plus the faculties and staffs are there to help you succeed. When I decided to come back to PSU to get my Master's degree, I was going for the Master in Finance since I have an undergraduate degree in that field. However, my advisor after listening to goal and career plan advised me the Master in Taxation (MT) program instead. Going to MT was the best decision I made for my career because I am learning so much in taxes and I am getting closer to sitting for the CPA exam.
I am currently a Staff Accountant. My future goal is to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and thrive in the public accounting world once I pass the CPA examinations.
Congratulations on taking this big step! Once you decide to go to graduate school, I believe the most important things is to get an information session which will help you decide on the best program that meets your career goals. PSU offers various channels of information in the school of business. Feel free to get in touch with the Ambassadors to their knowledge and expertise about the program and how to be successful.
