Studying MBA at PSU has been brilliant! It is very demanding but so very rewarding. I thought I'd 'feel' or experience the rewards at the end with achieving the goal but there are so many milestones, challenges and wins along the way, it is an experience with constant growth and rewards.
Close to 15 years as a finance professional in Australia - Bachelor of Business (Accounting) degree from Monash University in Melbourne followed by my CPA qualification from Deakin University in Melbourne. Three years ago I visited Portland, Oregon for some family business and went home with a job at PSU. In March, I moved here for my job as a Finance Manager at PSU and decided while here to do my MBA; something I've wanted to do for many years.
I will stay in finance/accounting however I seek more of a collaborative role, working with business leaders to drive results and contribute to planning and strategy. Corporate governance and sustainability are areas of interests also. I seek to move out of the not-for-profit space and back into corporate. I would love a position that required me to travel, preferably globally.
I only looked at PSU for grad school; I have a long family history here so PSU is where I knew I wanted to be. Also, working full time at PSU, I'm so lucky that to get to class, all I have to do is walk across the road. My key tip would be to make sure you want it - 100%. It is 21 months of extremely hard work, especially when you have multiple obligations like we all do in the part-time cohort. If an MBA is what you want, you will be challenged, you will consistently surprise yourself and you will learn more about yourself than you thought possible.
